First edition. The moral aspects of medical life, consisting of the Akesios. Akesios (or, Acesius), a surname of Apollo, under which he was worshipped in Elis, where he had a splendid temple in the agora. This surname, which has the same meaning as akestôr and alexikakos, characterised the god as the averter of evil.
Contains i.a. Benjamin Rush's [1746-1813] Moral and Physical Thermometer, or, a Scale of the Progress of Temperance and Intemperance (p. 12), this scale of health is in Public Characters (London 1801, p. 499), where it is supposed to have originated with Rush.
