| First edition. "The 'multiple factor' theory advanced by Nilsson-Ehle brought under the Mendelian law cases which, by their extreme variability of inheritance, might be considered exceptions to it"(G-M). "In this work, Nilsson-Ehle advanced the theory of 'multiple or polymeric factors' and proved that quantitative properties are also inherited in accordance with Mendel's Laws, although in such cases the processes are complex, and result in different gradations of these properties rather than in distinct categories. This theory is of great theoretical interest, and was immediately applied to the inheritance of properties of such great practical importance as yield, resistance to frost and diseases, earliness, etc. By the consistent application of his theory, Nilsson-Ehle attained extremely valuable and economically important results from recombination breeding, i.e. crosses of varieties and a combination of the valuable properties of each parent"(Rob.E. Fries). Lunds Universitets Årsskrift, N.F. Afd. 2, Vols.. 5:2 & 7:6. |
