Heitler's major work on quantum electrodynamics, "which marked the direction for future developments in quantum theory"(Moore, Walter Schrödinger: Life and Thought Cambridge, 1992, p. 376. "Walter Heitler föddes 1904 i Schweiz. Han blev professor i Dublin 1941 och i Zürich från 1949. Tillsammans med Fritz London utvecklade han redan 1927 grunden för den kvantmekaniska beskrivningen av den kemiska bindningen, vilket kan sägas ha gett upphov till kvantkemin. Han författade senare bl.a. standardverket "Quantum Theory of Radiation" 1936. Han besökte Oskar Klein 1954"(Anders Bárány at http://nobelprize.org).
